If you’ve read TheSpeechBlog very much, you’ll notice I occasionally recommend certain paid services or products. I do this because I think the products are helpful. But, sometimes I do receive small commissions for purchases made through links on this site.
I’ll always let you know when a link is an affiliate link. If there are several, I might include a note at the top or bottom of the post that says something like “I receive commissions for purchases made through links in this post.”
How does that work?
Example: I post a link to this book on Amazon (<– That’s an affiliate link). You click it. You buy it for $9.99. Amazon might give me a % commission on the sale. They don’t charge you any extra or anything like that. Amazon just says to itself, “Hey…Michael at TheSpeechBlog sent me this customer… I’ll give him a little something.” The exact % varies based on a bunch of different factors that I only barely understand .
Do I only recommend things that pay me to do so?
No! I only recommend things I trust and use for myself.
So, what do I do with the millions of dollars I’ve made?
First, allow me to laugh at my own joke. Hahahahaha.
Second, let me tell you. The little bit I receive in commissions barely covers the monthly cost to host this website. If I happen to make anything extra, I’d like to start a micro-scholarship for grad students (even just $50 to cover an application fee) … but I’ve got to talk to my accountant first.
